Abandoned Places: 10 Creepy, Beautiful Modern Ruins

I’ve been Stumbling again with StumbleUpon, again came across yet another fascinating selection of photos. This set of photos are of 10 Abandoned locations throughout the world . I’ve always found abandoned buildings  and those that decay or the passing of time both interesting and fascinating, photos are great way to capture history, and photos of places that captures a event or place in history.

City Hall Subway Station NYC
Take for example the Picture of the abandoned subway station in NYC, It was abandoned over 65 years ago yet much of its features and appearance have change little in that time, there is sign of decay but its it still looks as though it where still used today.

That volcano thing in Iceland

Oh how I hate Mondays

Yes its that time again, Monday has arrived which means the weekend is over for 5 days and another work week has begun. Not sure why Mondays always seem be the worst day of the week but it is. If there is one thing I need and that’s a holiday, my last holiday was in December and my next one is not till June but I’d really like another one now :( , oh well just have to keep plodding on till then.

It’s also quite strange looking into the skies at moment, which thankfully to the good weather we’ve had for the last few days is quite clear, its also completely devoid of any Airplanes.

Thanks to the Volcanao eruption in Iceland, and susequent ash cloud that followed, planes pretty much accross Europe have been grounded for fear that the ash will get into the planes engine and cause massive damage, and I am pretty sure we don’t want Planes falling out of the skys now do we.

There are some people out there who claim this is the beginning of the end and that 2012 is going to happen, I say its all a load of tosh and that people need to remember that Volcanic eruptions are natural process that’s been going on for hundreds and thousands of years, if any thing we should be more worried about global warming and the possibility of Nuclear war that want some predicted thousands of years ago.

At the moment I am currently working on getting the logo I’ve had in my head into digital format so I can finally have my one site logo, not sure what tools I will use yet since I am so out of practise but at the moment its between Adobe Illustrator or Photoshop, Illustrator I used when at Uni and was an amazing vector tool. Just need to scan the logo I’ve drawn, scan it into my computer and away I go.

Weekend it is…

Ok ok not going to repeat myself again but I will, slow again at putting any thing of interest on this site but I am getting there slowly. Switched to a new theme now I’ve worked out the kinks and I’ve sorted out the galleries so expect more photos.

Outside of that nothing much new, got lots of ideas what to do with the site, but at the moment will focus of photos.

Photography

Part of me wishes that when I was young and stupid that instead of keeping my interest in computers I actually choose to do photography. I’ve always like camera and wished that i’d learn the skills to take really cool looking images that really capture and tell a story but I guess that has to come with practice and training. Thinking now I wonder if Photography could pay the bills and if I perhaps should look for ways that would let me enjoy taking photos as well as paying the bills, who knows but I really think I’ll give it a go.

I should update this more often

I am slacking again, I always have good intentions to update my website on a regular basis and have ideas to do so just not the effort to actually sit down and finish anything I start. I’ve got two articles to put up, both reviews the first is in regards the World of Warcraft Wind Rider Cub Plush the second a review of the iPhone game Angry Birds. I will finish them by the weekend however, just need to grab some photo’s of the plush and stick them on my site.

Outside of that not much is going on, thankfully I think we have finally seen the end of Winter and are approaching Spring / Summer again which means lots of sun and warm weather, which is a change from the dark dull cold days of winter which to be honest just gets me down after a while.  Any ways I have Friday off work so I’m planning on going into Paris to take some photos been wanting to do that for ages but always just been to lazy and my days off usually resulted in staying in the house on the computer. So hopefully I’ll have lots of nice photos to share

Angry Birds

I’ve been getting to grips with my iPhone and trying out some of the games that are available on the apps store. One cool game i’ve come across so far is a game called Angry birds.  The basic idea of the game is that some evil pigs have stolen some the birds eggs, and as you can imagine the birds are none to happy. Quite a fun game so far and I’ll probably write up a review once I’ve had more time to play it, anyway if you have an iPhone/iPod Touch then check it out on the apps store its on € 0.79, which is quite a bargain for something quite addictive.

iPhone

So finally after near a year of waiting and a iPhone generation later I finally have my iPhone 3Gs and this phone is pretty damn nice. A phone, it plays games, you can download a multitude of applications from games to spirit levels but the most interesting thing so far is the Facebook application which makes checking your Facebook page so much easier. I am sure I have lots more to learn first but for once I am happy I finally got one.

I had to go for the 32GB model which was €50 more that the 16gb which was priced at €150 but extra space means more space for movies and music if I can somehow manage to get enough music to put on it. My only irritation is that putting music from a computer to the iPhone is a bit of hassle with iTunes, seems its rather complicated for simply transferring files from the computer to the iPhone, perhaps even I am all doing it wrong so I’ll likely need to learn further.

Can you say iphone time?

Well finally it is almost time after waiting for almost a year, my phone contract with Orange is almost at an end. 24 month phone contracts really stink since your stuck with the same phone and contract for 2 years, in that time better deals surface and your phone slowly starts to look old.

Having said that mind, my current phone an LG KU990 has recently developed the ability to turn itself off on its own, somewhat annoying but a sign the phone is on its last legs. So anyway I think I am going to join the Apple crowd like nearly everyone else and get myself finally an iPhone 3GS, I’ve been waiting to get one for ages but had to wait now the waiting is over and I can be just as much a geek as everyone else :D . So it will be out with Orange and in with SFR or Vodaphone to everyone else, what I am looking forward to is the ability read webpages and such which will be great in the morning on the bus as I can read the news :)

Finally got back to playing World of Warcraft again, not sure if I will play beyond getting the final parts of the Lunar Holiday event, so I can finally get the Violet Drake mount, been somewhat occupied by StarTrek Online though I am getting somewhat bored with that game and its only 2 weeks in.
