Avengers Assemble Trailer

Wow, Marvel/Disney have just released a new trailer for the upcoming, highly anticipated to many move Avengers Assemble. I have to say the second trailer looks a lot better than the first trailer, shows off more action, in-team fighting oh and the hulk who was all but missing from the first trailer, topping it of however with a much darker tone.

Overall 2012 seems a good year for movies, what with Batman: The Dark Knight Rises and the Hobbit to name a few due this year, I can for see a fair few visits to the Cinema.

Future Project

Something else that I had my eye on in sometime aside from the Killa Kans are ForgeWorlds Contemptor Dreadnoughts. These are pretty cool looking models and are a world of difference over the standard stumpy Dreadnoughts the Space Marines use. Relic Contemptor Dreadnought

I am going to wait sometime however as I want to improve my painting skills and get some ideas in my head over how I would pose the model, static poses are so boring as are plain bases. The only hesitation I have is that I am not a big fan of resin models, if its anything like the expensive, detailed but someone brittle FineCast models that Games Workshop has seemed to replaced metal models with now.  I’ve not had a good experience with first model I bought, which had some miss-cast and air bubbles which pretty much messed up the whole backpack of the GreyKnight Castellan Crowe, that and the banner also on the backpack snapped off just looking at it and it doesn’t seem I am the only one who is less then impressed with these new models, perhaps I was just unlucky with my purchase, but none the less first impressions mean everything.

I have already have an idea what color I would paint it however, yellow and probably going to be Imperial Fists related with lots of battle damage.

I got around to priming my Killa Kans, I can start working on them now, just need to sort out in my head what colors I will use and work with from there.

Ork Killa Kans Part 1

For quite some time I’ve been trying to back into painting minatures, I used to do it a lot a few years ago then I just stopped. I don’t actually play Warhammer 40k, or any of the Games Workshop games, its not something that ever really interested me, I’ve always just preferred the painting.

I picked up a box of Ork Killa Kans as I’ve been interested in painting them for a while, It was probably this video that made my mind up. I got around to building them on Friday night with a few beers while watching the Green Lantern (not a terribly bad movie to be honest).

I’m a bit of a Space Wolves fan myself and have a fair few Marine models that could do with painting, so I am hoping that by painting these models it will kick start me into painting the others, and to be honest I have a quite a few unpainted models needing some attention.

Not sure what color I am going to paint them, but will start by priming them with some Choas Black primer paint then work my way up from there.

Oh and yes this is my first Blog posting in almost a year, hoping that I will actually start to write more.

May the Fouth be with you.

Star Wars day - May 4th

May the Forth be with you

Indeed, its may the fourth and today’s its Star Wars day so with that we can celebrate my first Blog posting in 2 months. The weather is finally starting to pick itself up after a somewhat bleak, depressing winter and with that more chances to get outside and take photos. Still trying to get to grips with my Camera, getting irritated a little with the kit lens but overall I am glad I got it, not sure I could make a new career of it yet, but if I keep working at it you never know. Come the end of this month and hopefully with a Bonus, I’ll get the first lens I’ve been after for a while Canon EF – Objectif 50 mm f/1.8 II, its known as the Nifty Fifty and probably the first Prime lens you should get when starting out in DSLR Photography, before moving onto the more advanced and expensive lenses.

I may finally be getting a new computer soon, to replace the last one which died a death in March, not sure what I will get yet and I am not going to spend a great deal on a super system, my main concern is to get something that modern will be able to play games (yes that’s important) but more important will allow me to edit my RAW files, which at the moment is just not possible on my old P4, 1GB RAM laptop, so I am looking forward to finally getting to full grips with Lightroom 3 . Light Room is the modern day equivalent of a Dark room from where you can edit your Cameras DSLR RAW files (the negatives) adjust the colors, remove noise etc.. So hopefully with a new computer I’ll be able to spend time and edit my RAW files so  I can start to get more of my Photo’s online. This would also give me the chance to finally use the Wacom tablet I’ve had for a while now.

In other news the Sony Playstation Network has been offline for 2 weeks now going on 3 due to an ‘External Intrusion‘, i.e they where hacked and it seems that who ever did it manage to get a hold of some personal details, including names, address, PSN account names and hashed passwords, no evidence that credit card details where taken, but it show the dangers companies face these days in the “Digital Age”, in the meantime my paperweight Playstation 3 (fatty) is collecting dust. Since before christmas it stopped reading Blu-Rays so playing games from disk was out of the question, and recently it stopped reading any disks, so no PS2 games or DVD’s. The only thing I can do now is to play games from the HDD but with the PSN been down its not been possible to play online so no MAG for me :( , I am in two minds if I will go ahead and finally get the thing fixed, its going to cost me about €150 to get it repaired but I’ve been somewhat peeved with how Sony has handled the situation, I can perhaps forgive the possible theft of personal details, what annoys me is the pretty poor feedback they’ve given, the last official update was on Sunday (1st of May) and since then nothing (at time of writing). The downside to that is I’ve not been able to play the 2 games I got before Xmas, or have I had the chance to try any of the newer games released this year such as Killzone 3.

I also saw my first 3D Movie Thor, the movie itself was good though I am still yet to be convinced about this whole 3D thing, there where some 3D adverts shown before Thor that had better 3D then what was used in the film so it could be how you implement 3D into a movie or if you consider how to use it in a movie from the offset to really make use of it.

I hate computers

Cat nap

Well the title might be miss-leading, I don’t really hate computers but there a pain when they break at the most inconvenient times. It seems that finally after months of death throws my computer has finally died, from what I can figure out either the PSU is dead or the motherboard has gone, there is some kind of contact as the internal LAN light appears for a few seconds before going. Kind of disappointing as realistically I don’t have the cash to get a new one not for the foreseeable future which leaves me with my old laptop which isn’t bad just not ideal when it comes to editing large RAW but it  will do for now.

Still getting to grips with my new camera, got some good photos and some bad ones which is to be expected, still getting to grips with adapture settings, focal length and all that exciting stuff. Looking at upgrades I’d like to get for my camera, the first lens I’d buy is a 50mm f/1.8 ii sells for about €90 which will be a nice upgrade to the kit lens I have which I am not too happy with, images don’t seem sharp enough but then again I am quite fussy. The next lens which would be a very expensive purchase is a Canon 70-200mm f/2.8 which can be used for portrait shooting as well as sports and concert shots, only drawback is the cost the lens is about €1,500 and that’s for the official Canon lens, I could get a Sigma one for half that price if I choose to however, either would be a good investment as these types of lenses hold their values so you could sell it for much the same price you paid. Another purchase I’d like to go for is a battery attachment for the 550d which aside from allowing 2 batteries instead of the one, would add more bulk to the camera which given if you plonk a heavy lens, would make holding the camera for long periods of time more comfortable.

Anyway such purchases are a long way off as I really need to get a new computer but I am in no real rush at the moment. Finally if you have any interest in Photography you should check out the following website Fro Knows Photo, a great website that is regularly updated with tutorials, guides and general points for those starting out with DSLR’s even if your an advance user you may find some of the video interesting to watch, especially the RAW editing.

Digital Photography here I come

Finally after months of saying to myself that I wanted to get a DSLR, months of putting it off due to the lack of motivation, on Friday the 4th of February 2011, I bought myself the Camera I’ve had my eye on for quite sometime. I can tell you know that taking the leap into DSLR territory is not an easy one, the expense of doing such is quite high, you can buy the camera but that’s only as good as the person taking using it, on top of that you have to consider the other costs… lenses, tripod, flash, indeed it gets expensive..

Deciding what camera to get took me quite some time, I had narrowed it down to two choices the Nikon 3100 or the Canon EOS 550D both very good cameras, both aimed at the entry level DSLR user range, both matched for specs, settings for  fancy HD video stuff as well as taking photos. For me Full HD video recording doesn’t really interest me people who purchase cameras like this are looking to take photos not videos, you often have much better cheaper HD video cameras for that what I am interested in is that I want to take a snapshot of the what it is I have the camera pointing at. After much deliberation I went with the Canon option after I went and held both models in my hands, the Canon was more solid and felt more comfortable in my hands which I can tell you is a very important point should you ever look to get a camera holding something like this needs to feel natural as your going to be holding this thing for long periods of time, sadly the Nikon was in this case was too small, when getting a camera you really need to have something you feel comfortable with in your hand, if it feels like bad your photos will be suffer, so there we go my first little bit of advice.

So there you have it my first leap forward hopefully a good leap, I need to take big steps and I am hoping this will motivate me to sort my life out and get outside and do something which lets be honest something I’ve always loved… taking photos.

I have much to learn, many a bad photo no doubt but sod it give me the challenge.

Abandoned Remains of the Russian Space Shuttle Project Buran

Well I’ve been Stumbling again, and again I’ve come across something cool that tickles my fancy, abandonment. Now I don’t know much of the History of this place or the former Soviet ambitions for space, it is somewhat interesting to see a Russian equivalent of the NASA shuttle. just how relevant it is in appearance given it looks quite similar if that’s intended or not its hard to say.

Killzone 3

Killzone 3 is looking pretty good, really enjoyed Killzone 2 and its looks from what I’ve seen so far it looks like everything has been stepped up in KZ 3. Its due for release on the 27th of February, The only problem is my old PS3 fattys Blu-Ray drive is broke :( and i need to get it repaired which not only will cost me money I will also have to go through the hassle of taking it to retail outlet such as Game to then get it sent to Sony, which is whole lot of hassle if you ask me.

Happy New Year 2011

Happy New Year everyone, I am personally glad to see the back of 2010 not the best year I’ve had, only hope that 2011 is much better but let’s wait and see. One thing I do need to do is update this blog more often, yes yes I keep saying this but let’s see if this year I can actually make the effort.

Anyway all the best for 2011
